Erectile dysfunction is triggered by a handful of causes, and none of them are a reason for embarrassment.

Mind-body disconnects happen to everyone, and they don’t discriminate based on gender or age. Sometimes women feel mentally turned on, but for one reason or another, do not become wet. This is called arousal non-concordance. The language we use reinforces that a physical sign of arousal is the same thing as being turned on. For example, “I’m so hard,” or “I’m so wet.” But you can definitely be turned on without the accompanying physical signs, and likewise you can have the physical signs but not actually feel turned on. Both of these situations are totally normal and totally manageable.

Do You Have a Death Grip?

Another cause of specific types of ED is death grip syndrome, something I’ve written articles about and can definitely help with. The short story on death grip syndrome is that it is caused by masturbation practices that reduce sensitivity. You’re essentially gripping your penis so tightly during masturbation that other forms of sex, whether vaginal, anal, or oral, can no longer provide the stimulation you need to reach orgasm. In this situation, taking a break from masturbation can really help break up the routine and, slowly but surely, your penis will be sensitive once again.

Don’t Forget the Pills

Pills work, too. So many medications are available today that are effective and low in side effects, that I would be remiss to not mention them. But beyond the pharmaceutical scope, it can be helpful for those suffering from ED to have a cache of ideas to try in case one or more of the options fail.
